Langkawi News: Langkawi Water Festival 2011 Was A Great Success (Video)

LANGKAWI, APR. 16 - Langkawi Water Festival 2011 event that was held at Chenang Beach, finished today with a great success. The two days event started yesterday with the participation from locals, domestic tourists and international tourists. 

According to Anuar Abd Razak, the Director of Ministry of Tourism Kedah, this year event had a lot of participation.

"The attendance was so surprising. There were many participation from tourists," he said.

The event highlighted mostly the cleanliness of Chenang beach as tourism spot under the program '1Malaysia Green, 1Malaysia Clean'  (1MG1MC). Under this program, the organizer included beach and sea cleaning as part of the water festival activities. A few trees were planted during the opening ceremony that was graced by YB Rashidi Hasbullah, Deputy Secretary-General at the Malaysian Ministry of Tourism, as the sign of this year 'green and clean' concept.

Among the activities during the event were beach sports, water sports, stage performances, batik painting, graffiti, sand collage, cooking contest, karaoke, fishing, coloring contest and sepakraga tuju tournament.

The event has benefited people of Langkawi in term of economy especially at Pantai Chenang area. The organizer provided tents for handcrafts and food vendors along the beach.

"This year I had a lot of customers especially foreigners. They really like my handcrafts," said Bani Osman, a personalized key chain maker, that participated in Langkawi Water Festival every year.

The concert and firework that were held at night made visitors chose to stay the night at nearby motels and resorts. Among the local artists that performed in the event were Awie, Adira, Kogi, Kelvin Lau, Nash and Amelia.

"I've never seen so many happy people together. All sittings, all the young boys and girls together. And the tourists enjoy it too. The tourists like it. I see the smile on the face of the tourists. Everybody was happy yesterday and everybody is happy today," said Tejo, a visual artist from Holland who chose Langkawi as his holiday destination.

There were many government agencies took part to make the event successful such as Langkawi Development Authority (LADA), Langkawi Tourism City Municipal Council (MPLBP), Fire and Rescue Department, Marine Department, Civil Defence Department and many more.

"I hope that Tourism Ministry will continue to organize this event with more successful in the years to come. I also hope that the success of this year event would help Langkawi especially Chenang beach to be a great destination for domestic tourists and international tourists," said Anuar Abd Razak.

This event has become one of the main attraction for tourists to visit Langkawi.
